New Moon to Full Moon: August 23rd - September 6th, 2025

We are heading into a period of change in more ways than one! First up, August 22nd marks the end of Leo season and the beginning of Virgo season. The next 4 weeks that the Sun traverses the territory of the cosmic Maiden gives us the energetic “push” we need to get down to business. It’s no coincidence that students typically return to school during Virgo season. Remember how good it felt when you had fresh notebooks, mechanical pencils full of lead, and an organizer with color-coded tabs? Do you recall that intoxicating feeling you’d get in late August when you would think to yourself, “Yes, THIS is the school year I am finally going to be organized and my life will run smoothly”? That’s a true Virgo vibe, and one I encourage you to get in tune with now. 

These next weeks are well spent managing our lives more closely, putting our skills to use, and making improvements. You can dive right into activities like:

• Reconnecting to your health and wellness routines after a summer of fun

• Sketching out your fall calendar and see what commitments you have

• Doing more reading for study or for pleasure

• Organizing your closet to see what you’ll need when the colder months arrive. Make a plan to swap or shop for anything you’re lacking (though you might want to wait until Libra season begins for the second part!) 

• Tackling tasks at work & home that require a detailed approach - projects with multiple moving parts, more extensive cleaning jobs, editing tasks, etc. 

• Being of service through volunteer work or paid work where you use your talents to help others

• Joining a course or webinar you’ve been thinking about (Spell Work 101, 102, and Witchling 100 are all starting in the next 6 weeks! )

The New Moon occurs on August 23rd, just hours after the Sun goes into Virgo. As I’ve mentioned before, New Moons are also a wonderful time for setting intentions because it’s like planting a seed you hope to grow. You can set intentions about anything, but I always feel that they're strongest when they align with the energy of the moment. And right now, that means Virgo energy. So what are some Virgo qualities that you can think about calling into your life?

1. Discernment/Good Judgment

2. Perception

3. Earthiness

4. Sensuality

5. Discipline

6. Pragmatism

7. Moderation

8. A desire to improve/perfect

9. A desire to help

These qualities may not scream “fun”, but this lunation is a great time to explore the ways they can enhance your life.

Interestingly, this New Moon is in a tense relationship with a few other planets. The connection I think we’ll feel the most is between the Moon and Uranus. Translation: All may not go as planned this weekend, much to the dismay of Virgos everywhere! Think of any disruptions to your life like cosmic arrows pointing toward things that need your attention. Surprises can be unpleasant, yes, but don’t forget they can also herald change that is eventually for your highest good. 

Now, the other reason this is a period of change is because ECLIPSES are coming! Though the first Eclipse in this series won’t happen until September 7th, we will be in what astrologers call the “Eclipse window” as early as August 31st. And that means big, wily energies are at play.

I’ll give more information on Eclipses in the next post, but here are the highlights you need to be aware of next week:

1. Eclipses traditionally signify great endings and great beginnings. Eclipse energy is very noticeable when you observe world events, but eclipses don’t impact everyone’s personal life equally

2. The September 7th Eclipse is a Lunar Eclipse, which is connected to internal change. It’s not unusual for something to suddenly become clear…even if you don’t act on it right away, you might make a decision that's been a long time coming. Because the Eclipse window opens around August 31st, you could have an experience like this even prior to the actual Eclipse day.

3. Folks who have Virgo, Pisces, Gemini, or Sagittarius as the Sun sign, Rising sign, or other angles in their birth chart are more likely to notice the Eclipse energy in a personal way
