New Moon to Full Moon Dec 19, 2025 - Jan 2, 2026, by Kelsey Bednar @the_astro_yogi
New Moon in Sagittarius (12/19)
The Moon will be in the darkest part of her cycle on Friday as she meets the Sun at 28 degrees of Sagittarius.
This lunation falls right on top of the degree for our Galactic Center, so from a spiritual perspective, 12/18 - 12/20 can be a very mystical few days. Some astrologers believe that this point in the zodiac offers more access to cosmic truths and higher insights. Because the New Moon is also configured to Neptune, it is a time where the boundaries are more porous between the known and unknown, between our individual mental spheres and universal consciousness. If you hold any beliefs about the secrets of the cosmos or about forces of nature beyond our comprehension, then this is an exciting time to consider all that we don’t yet know. Be open to messages you receive in your dreams, from nature, or via your intuition!
From a mundane, every-day-on-Earth perspective, this New Moon does come with some wonky aspects. With a challenging Venus-Saturn connection, finances are highlighted. Perhaps it’s a feeling that you’ve overspent on the holidays or aren’t ending the year where you thought you would. It could also play out in relationships - a tiff with a loved one or a sense of distance from a friend or partner. The additional configuration between trickster Uranus and the Sun/Moon tells me that challenges to our identities and/or feelings are also possible. While Uranus events can wig us out, the purpose of them is to catalyze growth and increase our freedom. Try to keep that in mind if you experience a sudden, minor upset.
REMEMBER to be soft with yourself Friday & Saturday because your energy is likely to be lower. It’s a perfect time for setting intentions and for connecting with your Spirit Team/Ancestors/Angels. Try to only say yes to activities that feel easy and effortless versus those that feel like an obligation.
New Moon Intention-Setting
Because a New Moon is, in my mind, the #1 intention-setting time, I encourage you to focus on Sagittarian themes and how you can draw more of this energy into your life. Consider the following:
Adventure & Travel → Part of Sagittarian energy is the love of expanding one’s sphere. Think about where you might like to take a day, weekend, or extended trip in 2026. (Scotland, anyone?!) Start reading about your destination(s) and prepare to make your travel plans during Capricorn season!
Joy → Sagittarian energy is tightly connected to joy, gratitude, and optimism. If you have found yourself without a strong sense of these, it’s time to re-engage. Saying yes to happiness does not mean you have to let go of care, convictions, or action.
Philosophy and Belief → Sag energy correlates to higher learning, philosophy, belief, and wisdom. Navigating life becomes easier when we have an overarching idea of how we think things fit together in the earthly realm and beyond. Consider what you believe right now. What inspires you and what sparks that sense of optimism and wonder I mentioned above? Consider the ways in which your personal philosophy has evolved through 2025.
Intuition as a Guide → This New Moon is a wonderful one for honoring intuition. If you have felt disconnected from yours lately, set an intention to tune back in for 2026.
Yule/Capricorn season (12/21 - 1/18)
As you may know, the Winter Solstice, or Yule, represents the shortest day of the year and the gradual return of the light in the Northern Hemisphere. But did you know it’s also the first day of Capricorn season? Happy early birthday to all our O+A Capricorn boss babes!
You know the Virgo in me LOVES that this season corresponds with the beginning of a new calendar year. Though it might seem like there are competing priorities between getting shit done and slowing down to rest for winter, I actually think Capricorn and winter energy go together quite well. I always visualize Capricorn as a person who is super cozy at home, writing in their journal, organically creating content, organizing their offerings, and crystallizing their visions into grand plans.
And speaking of visions, we get a Mercury-Neptune square on December 31st and January 1st. This means we should allow ourselves to DREAM in the closing days of this year. What are your fantasies about life and what you want from it? What are your highest hopes for 2026? Purposefully access your imagination and take note of what comes up. Though not all our beautiful dreams will make it through the sieve that is Capricorn season, you can’t build anything without first having an idea.
I look forward to sharing more on Capricorn energy in my next installment, and in the meantime, Happy Yule & New Year!
